MC Bio: Future steward of Gondor and captain of its armies, Denethor felt he had a lot to live up to and felt unduly threatened by the brave Captain Thorongil who was truly Aragorn. Unwilling to fight against his jealousy toward Aragorn, he believed his father to trust the Captain more and that Aragorn had designs on his future position of Steward. These thoughts, being entirely unfounded and foolhardy, nonetheless played hard against Aragorn’s determined attempts to befriend the man. Having suffered a mortifying betrayal by a close if not badly chosen friend, Denethor was quick to assume that Legolas was also a traitor and tortured and questioned him for the deaths of innocent people attacked by the Corsairs. He was later made to see that Alcarin had been the true traitor, and in the end parted on almost friendly terms with Thorongil.

Appearance: Tall, strongly built with easily crazed features

Father: Oropher
Brother: Thranduil

Fic(s): TLR and Betrayal
History: Doriflen was both Thranduil’s brother and friend when they were growing up, finding his little brother’s obsession with following him around amusing, Doriflen taught Thranduil about many things and enjoyed his younger brother‘s company. But when he and Thranduil were still children, Doriflen was taken by servants of Morgoth for three days and in that time learned, through his own experience, pain and despair. However, despite his father’s desperate attempts to help Doriflen forget, Doriflen let the hurt consume him and that one twist soon turned to insanity. He began to build objects of torture and mutilate animals beneath the Halls of Mirkwood. At last, when it came time to pass the throne, Oropher had made up his mind to pass it to Thranduil in event of his death. This enraged Doriflen to no end, he once tried to trap Thranduil down in a magma pit and though Oropher saved his youngest from the pit, neither of them realized that Doriflen had orchestrated the ‘accident’. Shortly after, Doriflen left with his followers in a rage. After Oropher’s death, however Doriflen returned, and although he hardly seemed changed, Thranduil was eager to have his brother back and he tried to live again in harmony. However this oversight on Thranduil’s part brought on more trouble than he could have imagined. Doriflen both tried to ruin Thranduil’s attempts to bring peace after the battle on the slopes of Mordor, all the while gathering followers, and tried to turn Legolas against his own father. Pretending to be Legolas’ Saelon, a teacher that only Thranduil could appoint, Doriflen beat and ruthlessly punished Legolas for things that he had hardly done, all the while saying it was part of his training and later tried to use him to steal an important ring from his father. One night Doriflen led an uprising that ended in many of the elves leaving and, while they lived out at Doriflen’s underground camps, they burned and pillaged Mirkwood’s recourses leaving Thranduil’s people with nothing. In the end Doriflen kidnapped Legolas telling Thranduil that he must give up the throne or lose his son, however Trelan and Raniean managed to save Legolas and return him to Thranduil and Thranduil at last faced Doriflen. Many of Doriflen’s followers turned against him when faced with the truth about their ruler and in the end Doriflen was exiled with what was left of his followers.
MC Bio: Many years later Doriflen returned, pretending that he had changed, he was excepted back by Thranduil. Before Legolas and Aragorn arrived however he had locked up Thranduil and all those openly loyal to him, he then captured Legolas and Aragorn, they however managed to escape and rescue Thranduil. They then faced Doriflen down in royal hall and when Doriflen tried to kill Thranduil he was shot by Trelan instead.

MC Bio: Dyryn was a bounty hunter paid by Mannyn to bring Aragorn to him. After capturing Aragorn, Dyryn proceeded to drag the ranger through the cold and snow covered mountains, keeping Aragorn on nearly lethal doses of a drug called Belithral that would keep him from being able to fight. However Legolas caught up with them before they could reach Mannyn and after an avalanche took Dyryn down, Legolas and Aragorn assumed that he was dead. Unfortunately he survived and many years later, in an attempt to get revenge on Aragorn for all the trouble he caused, Dyryn kidnapped Eldarion and threatened to kill him. Aragorn and Legolas eventually found Eldarion, but in the process Legolas was fatally injured by the trap set for Aragorn. Dyryn then gave Aragorn the choice between saving Legolas or saving Eldarion or he would kill them both. But before he was able to carry out this threat, Jonath and his men came upon them and Gimli cut Dyryn down with his axe.
